2024 Holiday Gift Guide
The holiday season is the perfect time to give thoughtful, practical gifts that bring a touch of luxury to daily routines. Whether you're shopping for family, friends, or coworkers, haircare products make excellent gifts because they’re both useful and universally loved. This year, consider gifts like leave-in detangling sprays that make brushing easier for all hair types, or a filtered shower head that removes impurities and elevates the entire shower experience. Serums and finishing oils are ideal for adding softness and shine, while an at-home shine treatment can give hair that holiday glow. Don’t forget a great hairbrush; it’s a simple but surprisingly amazing gift that everyone will love. Give gifts this season that make every day feel like a self-care day!
Leave-in Detangling Sprays
R+Co Bleu F-Layer Detangling Mist, R+Co Candy Stripe, Oribe Run-Through Detangling Primer
My number one suggestion for anyone to add to their routine is a detangling spray or leave-in conditioner, its a simple way to elevate your haircare ritual. A leave-in conditioner is going to help fill in any damaged parts your hair may have, allow it to slip and glide past itself, detangling with ease. Sometimes I like to spray a little bit in my hand to restyle frizzy hair and give longevity to my styles, instead of washing daily. I picked these three as my top favorites as they’re conditioning while still being lightweight. All three have added heat + UV protection and are light enough that I can use them on any hair and not worry about it being too heavy.
Personally the F-Layer Detangling Mist has me in a chokehold since it’s release! Every one of my clients has loved the scent, Bleu Waves, which is a light citrus floral meant to transport you to Italy off the Amalfi Coast. All of R+Co Bleu products also include the Bleu Molecule Complex which is their blend of ingredients meant to gradually treat the hair by delivering active ingredients via micro-encapsulated sugars, actively conditioning the hair with each use.
The Oribe Run-Through Detangling Primer has also been amazing to use behind the chair. I found myself often alternating between this and the F-Layer mist until I ran low on it. The one thing about the Run-Through is I cannot find a way to get the lid off, so getting the last little bit in the bottom of the bottle seems impossible and I don’t like to waste product.
Filtered ShowerHead
Have you ever wondered why hairstylist suggest a filtered showerhead? If you don’t live in a house or building that has a water softening system you may have hard minerals or impurities in your water that could be affecting your hair (and skin). Minerals such as copper, magnesium, iron, calcium and manganese are a few examples that could alter your natural hair color, strip artificial hair dyes, and build up over time making the hair feel heavy and eventually look dull.
There are a couple of ways to help prevent this build-up, or reduce the amount in your water, one of which is a filtered showerhead. This is an easy way to elevate your shower experience, especially for those that aren’t able to install a softening system in their home. One factor to consider when buying this is that you will need to replace the filter regularly to keep the effectiveness.
Detangling & Styling Brushes
A great hairbrush is an essential when it comes to healthy hair, you don’t want to be ripping through tangles and cause breakage. ERGO has some of the best brushes I’ve ever used, the super gentle series has been amazing and all of my clients obsess over the detangling brush! The bristles are a mix of bendy and slightly bendy allowing them to slip and bend past larger snarls and tangles, but still able to brush through and detangle gently. Either size of the detangling brush would make a perfect gift or stocking stuffer for any one with hair!
The round brushes are also top tier, the bristles aren’t too stiff and don’t hurt when they poke you in the scalp. They are also slightly textured, instead of being super sleek, which I feel helps to grab and grip the hair instead of it just falling off the brush. They’re extra long, which is great to cut down drying time by taking larger sections, a stylish purple color, and feature a soft but textured handle.
Smoothing Oils
When it comes to styling I am almost always finishing out my clients with a smoothing oil. I love shiny, glossy and healthy looking hair and sometimes we need a little help to tame the frizzy flyaway or soften our ends to give it that look.
When our hair is at its most healthiest, virgin hair (not chemically processed), it naturally has a very thin fatty lipid layer (18-MEA) that keeps the moisture in the environment from affecting it to a degree. As hair gets damaged, naturally from mechanical processes like brushing & tying it up or chemical processes, it losses this layer and will become more susceptible to the environment.
Smoothing oils help to provide slip to the hair, allowing it to glide past itself instead of snagging, help to seal the cuticle and reduce moisture from coming into or leaving the hair too quickly. They can also provide UV protection and even heat protection.
Now these can vary in weight and feel, so as much as I adore the Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil from R+Co Bleu, for fine hair textures I opt for my K18 hair oil as it’s virtually weightless. Two-Way Mirror is another amazing option that would be good most hair types.
Deep Conditioning Treatments
Perhaps my favorite routine, at least at home, is my treatment day, which I look forward to every week. Nothing beats the incredible feeling of the ultra buttery mask instantly softening my hair while effectively locking in my vibrant color. I’ve had the luxurious Gemstone mask from R+Co in my shower for the past 6 months, and I am still working my way through the same bottle. Yes, while I keep my hair short, I do tend to use a little more than necessary.
If you want truly glossy-looking hair that catches the light and shines, my go-to product is the recently launched Oribe Mirror Rinse. The bottle is quite neat, allowing you to apply it precisely on your mid-lengths and ends of your hair, just where you want that extra shine, although I must admit it can be a tiny bit slippery during application. Perfect for anyone with color or natural hair that wants some extra shine in their life.
